HAUS OF MIRA is founded by artist Annemieke Denters and scientist Lara Wierenga. They bridge art and science to for projects with impact to reveal what stays unseen: the assumptions we don’t challenge, the patterns we don’t notice, and the structures we rarely question.

Their collaborative work blends scientific accuracy with artistic sensitivity. They partner with institutions, cities, and creators to bring visibility to mental health, gender inequality, and cultural blind spots that shape the world we live in. Their dialogue allows novel measurements and interpretations, which in turn spark new scientific and artistic insight.

anneMIeke

Annemieke Denters is a figurative artist whose work explores how memory and care, take shape in the body. Drawing on her academic background and exploratory studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, she brings a unique depth and perspective in her work.

The themes that fascinated her since the start of her career led her through several academic studies including psychology, criminology and econometry. Along her journey, she discovered the transformative power of art and realized she could express these themes most powerfully through her artistic practice. In her work, these themes are reflected through quiet, layered scenes and embodied gestures, inviting a direct, felt experience — moments that resonate deeply and make the unseen felt.

Her work moves between painting, installation, photography, and performance. Through quiet, layered scenes, closed eyes, leaning gestures and, repeated forms, she paints what is sensed but rarely spoken. Her figurative paintings reveal how memory is carried in the body, uncovering the subtle emotional currents that shape how we see ourselves and each other.

laRA

Lara is a neuroscientist and writer whose work investigates how biology and culture shape the developing brain to understand mental health. She uses experimental research to understand how we think, learn, and act - neuroimaging techniques to study how the brain is organized and functions - and computational modeling to make sense of complex data to unravel patterns. Her passion for understanding human potential drives HAUS OF MIRA’s scientific foundation.

Lara has developed several successful art–science projects, including the bestselling book 'Atlas van ons Brein' in co-creation with graphic designer Dirma Janse. Through her co-creative projects, Lara has experienced the power of art–science collaborations and knows how to guide them to achieve impact.
